WolfAloud* — Stop reading. Start listening.

Highlight the words. Press Ctrl+Alt+Q. WolfAloud reads selected or copied text aloud in a voice you choose — across Telegram Desktop, Chrome, Word, PDFs, email and other Windows apps where text can be selected or copied.

A small purple bar lives on your taskbar, ready when you are. One hotkey or one click gets the words moving, so you can listen while you carry on with your day.

Highlight. Press. Listen.

A quick way to hear the words already on your screen.

1. Select or copy

Highlight a paragraph in an app, or copy the text you want to hear. WolfAloud works across apps where Windows can expose selected or copied text.

2. Press the hotkey

Press Ctrl+Alt+Q, or click Read on the floating bar. Playback typically begins in about a second.

3. Listen and carry on

Choose your voice and speed, then let WolfAloud read while you keep working, browsing or relaxing.

Choose a voice that feels right

Pick from 322 natural voices, including Australian, British, Irish and American options, with a range of female and male voices. Preview a voice, choose it in Settings, and change it later from the system-tray menu.

If you go offline, WolfAloud falls back to a voice available in Windows and switches back to your chosen online voice when the connection returns.

It understands real-world text

  • Emoji bullets become natural pauses between list items.
  • Tables are read as their labels and values — not as pipe characters.
  • Markdown markers, bold text, divider lines and links are cleaned up instead of spoken literally.
  • Add your own spell-outs — for example, “QSI” can be spoken as “Q S I”.
  • Paragraph breaks create pauses, while wrapped PDF lines can stay connected as one sentence.

Translate and listen in one step

When WolfAloud detects text in another language, it can translate it into your chosen language and read the translation aloud.

A small card shows the original alongside the translation and highlights each sentence as it is spoken. No API key or separate account is required.

Original text. Translation. Sentence highlighting.

Keep the source and translated text together while WolfAloud reads, so it is easier to follow along.

Made with Telegram Desktop in mind

Telegram Desktop draws its own text, which can make it invisible to ordinary Windows selection-based readers. That is why they can come back with “Nothing selected.”

WolfAloud offers several ways to capture the text — including repeated copy attempts and a direct copy message — plus Read whatever is on the clipboard as a practical fallback.

Copy the post, click Read, and listen without moving it into another document first.

Useful beyond Telegram

Listen to articles in Chrome, documents in Word, PDFs, emails and other text you can select or copy in Windows.

WolfAloud is designed for text. It does not read words contained only inside pictures.

A reading bar that works your way

Keep the controls close, choose your pace and pick up where you paused.

Place it where you want

Park the bar along the taskbar or stand it vertically at the side of your screen. It stays on top and remains accessible while you work.

Set your own pace

Adjust speed from 0.75× to 2×. A speed change takes effect from the next sentence, much like a media player.

Pause, stop or resume

Pause keeps your place. Stop clears the current text. Close to stop and hide the bar in one click, then resume paused reading from the bar or tray menu.

A straightforward Windows app

WolfAloud is built for Windows 11 and comes as one 64 MB WolfAloud.exe file. There is no installer or administrator setup; save it to your Desktop or a USB drive and launch it.

First run takes about 20 seconds and asks three setup questions. After that, WolfAloud is available from the system tray as a purple wolf.

Check that everything is working

Choose Tray → Run a self-check… to test the hotkey, voice, audio and translation. Results are explained in plain English. The log is saved at %APPDATA%\WolfAloud\wolf-aloud.log.

Other readers read. WolfAloud flows.

  • No robotic spelling of punctuation.
  • No “outbox tray” when the text contains a send emoji.
  • No bar disappearing behind the taskbar.
  • A new read replaces the previous text instead of replaying an old message.

Downloading safely

Windows may warn about apps it is not yet able to recognise. A warning alone does not prove that a file is malicious — or that it is safe. Download WolfAloud only from the official Wolf Designs / Quick Link Designs source, and compare the published file hash if one is provided. If Smart App Control blocks the app, do not switch off Windows protections just to run it; contact us for help.
