Red X showing instead of pictures on emails

Have you set up an email to be sent to you from your site, image included, and then found the computer you are getting your email to shows a Red X where the picture should be?red x

Microsoft Outlook is configured by default to block automatic picture downloads from the Internet.

Some advantages of blocking automatic picture downloads include:

  • Helping you avoid viewing potentially offensive material (when external content is linked to the message).
  • Helping to keep malicious code from damaging the data on your computer.
  • If you are on a low-bandwidth connection, blocking allows you to decide whether a particular image warrants the time and bandwidth that are required for downloading it.

So if you know that a sender will always send a ‘safe’ picture to you, then you can unblock the picture and get rid of that Red X

If you want to unblock downloads of any linked pictures and other external content for a single message that comes from a source that you trust:

How to unblock picture downloads for a single message

  • Click the InfoBar at the top of the message, and then click Download Pictures.

Note   When you click Download Pictures in a message that you are previewing in the Reading Pane, the message is automatically saved and displays the pictures again the next time that you open the message. When you click Download Pictures in an open message, if you want the message to display the pictures the next time that you open the message, you must save the message.
